“TrUcKs ShOulD b BanT bEcuz U can”T C ChilDren behind them”
Children are small, they can hide behind a Miata. People who ran over their own children probably didn’t check behind their car when they backed up. This is another bad argument. Along with the blind spot argument, people who complain about that obviously haven’t driven a modern vehicle.

Modern vehicles are mobile blind spots.

The Malibu I rented lasted weekend had worse blind spots than any half ton I’ve ever been in.

Yep, our new Ram’s have back-up camera’s, but besides hooking up a trailer, the mirrors work fine.

That article and its comment section are fueling 25% of today’s Oppo content.

That literally isn’t even an argument, whoever wrote that article obviously hasn’t ever been to the south either.
If you back your truck into parking spots (as you should), that literally won’t be an issue.
I vote we ban black cars for daily driving too because we can’t see them at night!

Technically the doughnuts are the fried goods, and donuts are a lazy way of spelling it. Donuts are also these:

Like the crossovers everyone is buying are any better...

Also: any parent worth a damn should be teaching their kids not to play behind cars.

The blindspots are worse.

I have always found pickup trucks the easiest vehicles on earth to park and see the corners of. Yes, you have a blind spot for short objects like kids, but like you said, all cars do.
Meanwhile the crossovers all have massive blind spots in the C / D pillars, and everything is getting rear view cameras. Pickup truck with a rear view camera is about as safe as it gets, visibility wise.
Whatever, that article and the responses are a cesspool of hot takes and clickbait.

I refuse to read Jalopnik anymore because of crap exactly like this.

A better truck rant would be about how tiny those rear doors are.

We use them all the time, they are much better than the old suicide doors.

How do you load stuff into the bed if it’s backed in?

Middle of the lot along an island, or I pull it out somewhere if I’m at Home Depot or something.

Whenever someone says “for the children” , I get suspicious, because those words have been used to justify any number of the worst atrocities and assaults on basic liberties through history.

It’s also usually the people that warning labels are made for.

I have never heard someone make an argument that you shouldn’t drive something large because you might run over a kid. I agree that it’s incredibly asinine to think that’s even a point to be made. Everyone should do a walkaround before getting in regardless.

Well, I’d like to introduce you to the front page.

Funny, I’ve always found that trucks have better visibility except for short objects in the area immediately (say 2') behind the tailgate. Which, to be as fair as possible, is the area of visibility they are complaining about... but a) almost universally, new trucks come with backup cameras, and b) unless you’re totally oblivious you should still be able to notice them. Kids do not simply “remain still”, nor do they appear out of nowhere.
Also, back INTO your parking spot and this won’t be a problem.
